Having working with Theatre-maker Clara Bloomfield I have always wanted to make theatre that pushes boundaries, not only from an audience perspective but the actors’ as well. Pushing the actors’ boundaries physically and emotionally using contemporary theatre as a platform for this. Not only this I want to make sure that everyone in the community has access to theatre and for using it for educational purposes as well.
Theatre is forever developing and pushing boundaries in all different kind of ways, and that is the same with community theatre, however it pushes you as a human being to show empathy and be a person of perspective. I feel like I am always challenging my skills as a future community facilitator working at my old youth theatre and assistant directing the Christmas project for Stagecoach Stirling.
For me it is about enabling young potential, the potential to become young actors and theatre-makers. And it is unlocking this. I have seen first hand what a little of positive energy and a platform to express yourself can do. The principal of Stagecoach Stirling said about me: “It was lovely to have George in the school for a few weeks, particularly having been a student previously. He worked well with the students giving them some direction for their end of term presentation and assisting in helping to develop some of the students character work. His energy was infectious and some of the students were certainly inspired by it. I would be more than happy to have George assist in the school again.”
I have made numerous contacts within the industry such as Clara Bloomfield and Bruce Strachan. Directing shows for me is very much seeing people bloom and become a well-rounded performer and create a piece of artwork on stage, through performing.
