Citizens Theatre are recruiting for Care Experienced Theatre Company, a new theatre ensemble of care experienced young people aged 18 to 26 years from Glasgow and commutable local authority areas. The new ensemble will be with us from October this year up until they perform a commissioned show at Tramway in October 2019.
The process will include acting classes and creating a show with the playwright and director, as well as mentoring in a wide range of theatre and arts-related roles (lighting design, set design, wardrobe, marketing, etc) with the aim of opening minds to the range of possible routes for further training and/or employment in the sector.
There will be 15 people selected for the programme and the fundamental eligibility criterion is that every member of the company has to have had personal direct experience of the care system. The work will not be about people’s experience of care unless they themselves want it to be. The project partners CELSIS (Centre for Excellence for Looked After Children in Scotland) define care experience as: having being cared for as a child or young person in kinship care (by friends or family), foster care, residential care or secure care for any period of time (e.g. it might have been a few months or a number of years).
The first recruitment workshops are in September and if anyone is interested or wants to find out more please contact Carly McCaig on firstname.lastname@example.org.
