In 2019 Youth Theatre Arts Scotland will present Interchange – Scotland’s professional development and networking event for those who use drama and theatre in their work with young people. The event will be held at Perth Theatre from 15-17 March, 2019.

The overall theme of the event will be based around the statement ‘young people are using theatre to change the world’. In today’s complex political climate, young people are taking to the stage to share their thoughts and reflections on the state of the world and their place in it.

The 2019 Interchange programme will present a series of masterclasses, workshops and events exploring innovative creative practice and new ways of collaborating with young people to make important and inspiring work.

There will also be performances from young companies, 1:1 surgeries with the YTAS team and selected practitioners as well as the option to join us every morning for a ‘wake me up’ yoga session.

The Lab

A weekend-long residency, which challenges the traditional CPD workshop model. Collaborating with an experienced artist and others in the room, you will work intensively to interrogate the Lab topic and explore creative ways of approaching text and context with young theatre makers.

2019’s Lab Residency, ‘Epic Issues through Epic Stories’, will be led by prolific Australian-based director and theatre maker, Dr Dave Kelman and will focus on reimagining classic texts through the eyes of young people/communities and using these to bust open larger national or international issues.

In 2019 we will have two one-day masterclass options, allowing participants to engage in a deeper and more intensive learning experience with some exciting and dynamic creatives.

Saturday Masterclass: The Art of Telling Your Story (or ‘A Storyteller and a Fundraiser Walk into a Bar’)

Sunday Masterclass: Interactive Theatre – rethinking the role of the audience.

A selection of four half-day workshops, designed to invigorate, engage and inspire your practice!

The full masterclass and workshop programme will be released in January.
